A Social Media Manager and a Content Agency Do Different Jobs

A lot of Cyprus businesses hire a social media manager, get a neat calendar, and three months later the phone is as quiet as it was. The manager did the job. The job was the wrong one.

A social media manager keeps the account alive. They schedule, reply, tidy the profile, and post what you send them. A content agency makes the thing worth posting. Scripts, a filming day at your place, an edit that holds attention, captions, and the same video cut for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook. Those are different skills, and they solve different problems.

When a manager is enough

You already have a person in the business who can talk on camera. You already film every week. You need someone reliable to post it, answer “what time do you close?”, and stop the inbox from going cold. In that case a manager, or a community-management add-on, is the right hire. You do not need a crew.

When the account is quiet for a reason

The usual case is the opposite. The owner is on the tools all day. Nobody wants to film. The last twelve posts are photos, flyers, and a repost. A manager can only schedule what exists. If nothing exists that would make a stranger stop, the calendar will look busy and the enquiries will not move.

That is the gap we see on almost every first call. The business does not have a posting problem. It has a footage and a script problem. Reels that get no views are usually the same issue: the first second does not say anything a customer cares about, because nobody wrote it down before the camera came out.

What to ask before you pick

Ask who holds the camera. If the answer is “you send us clips”, you are hiring an editor and a scheduler, which is fine if you said that out loud. Ask how many finished videos you get, not how many posts. Eight videos posted to four platforms is thirty-two posts. The number that matters is the videos, because that is the work.

Ask what month one looks like. If you want the unglamorous version, we wrote what actually happens in the first month with a video agency. Ask who answers comments and DMs. Posting without replies is how you pay for attention and then ignore it.

Then look at price against the list, not against a vibe. We put real monthly ranges in what social media marketing costs in Cyprus. Compare that with what content marketing should include before you sign a retainer that only covers scheduling.

You can add a manager later

Some businesses grow into both. The content is made properly, the comments get heavy, and someone needs to live in the inbox. Start with the missing piece. For most of the businesses we talk to, that piece is the video, not another login to Meta Business Suite.

If you want us to film it and run it, the social video work is the place to start. If you are still deciding who to hire at all, how to choose a marketing agency in Cyprus is the longer checklist.
